About the Centre

Centre for Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance was founded in July 2012 at the School of Economics and Business in Sarajevo, University of Sarajevo.

Having observed and followed the mission statement of School of Economics and Business in Sarajevo, which reads: „To become a prestigious higher education institution in the area of economic and business sciences in South East Europe region by 2025. “, basic aim of the program of the Islamic banking is exactly the mission of the EFSA in this particular field of education.

In 2015, SEBS enrolled the third generation of MA students in the field of IBEF. Up to now, the overall number of 70 students was a part of the program. Also, within the framework of some of the programs at the undergraduate (BA) studies, Islamic banking is a core subject. Islamic banking and finance, as a separate course, has also been offered as an elective subject for all the other undergraduate study programs. During the previous years, more than 1500 students selected and completed this course. 

The primary goal has always been to pursue the commitments and to provide state-of-the-art advisory consultancy and education through various well recognized modes: master study programs, distance learning programs, trainings and workshops, performed by our highly qualified researchers and lecturers to develop diverse skills and competences among our students, as well as to provide them with essential aspects of knowledge, both in theory and practice.

We are dedicated to serve the community as a unique institution providing training, education and consultancy activities in the field of Islamic Banking and Finance in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the region of the Central and Southeast Europe.

- To be the best regional, knowledge-based Centre in the field of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance.

MISSION

- To conduct innovative, professionally driven programs, to pursue industry-related research and to provide consultancy services in area of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance.

GOALS

- To provide necessary assessments of the capacity development programs in the field of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance- To act as a regional authoritative body for consultation and advisory services, when it comes to the conventional and Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance Industry.- To pursue a genuine, industry–related research in field of Islamic Economics.- To cooperate with other higher education institutions and centers in the field of Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance (i.e. University of Bolton).
