Student competencies

The delivery of programme provides for the use of different teaching methods, from the traditional knowledge transfer to case studies, discussions, preparation and presentation of term papers, essays, database use and analysis, visits to institutions, participation of guests from practice, and actual solving of cases within project tasks. All the above serves to students’ adoption and development of knowledge, skills and capabilities, as follows:

  • Comprehensive and critical thinking based on problem analysis and synthesis
  • Effective use of information and communication technologies
  • Acquisition and appropriate use of databases and other sources
  • Ability to use previous knowledge, skills and methodological approaches in identifying problems and solving them at the level of individual public sector institutions
  • Ability to manage public organizations at different levels
  • Ability to understand the impact of broader natural, social and technological environment and European integrations on changes in public sector
  • Ability to practically apply knowledge and skills in making decisions on individual public sector issues
  • Ability for team work, professional discussions and consensus-based decision-making
  • Developing abilities to detect and ask research questions in the area of public sector economy and management and environmental protection, planning and completing research papers

  • Become familiar with problems in public sector financing
  • Learn about the process of liberalization in various areas of public sector in the EU and understand the operation of public organizations and enterprises in such situations
  • Understand political, economic and social aspects of public administration and specifics of individual countries in the light of international comparability
  • Understand fundamental concepts in the economy of environment and public policy created for resolving economic, social and environmental problems

 

Additional competencies of students who complete the module Management and Economics of the Public Sector

  • Learn about the functioning of various public sector areas: health care, education, telecommunications, energy
  • Acquire the ability to articulate proposals of economic policy measures in these areas
  • Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for efficient public organization management
  • Use all business science tools for efficient design, implementation and estimates of relevant managerial approaches in public sector
  • Acquire appropriate organizational skills in performing top and middle-level manager jobs in public organizations.

 

Additional competences of students who complete the module Environmental Economics and Management

  • Understand and recognize major environmental problems faced by managers in different business environments
  • Develop awareness of ethical and moral norms that must be observed in search for sustainable use of resources
  • Acquire necessary practical knowledge, particularly in the domain of environment control and regulations.
